With the FAA’s new MOSAIC rules (effective 2024), Sport Pilot training is more flexible, capable, and relevant than ever. At Highlands Aero, our Sport Pilot Certificate Program is designed for those who want an affordable, accessible, and efficient pathway into aviation—whether you’re flying for fun or building a foundation for future ratings.
The Sport Pilot Certificate allows you to fly Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA) and now, under MOSAIC, certain aircraft that previously required a Private Pilot certificate. It’s an excellent option for recreational aviators or those seeking a first step into advanced training.
Fly during daylight hours under Visual Flight Rules (VFR)
Night flight is now allowed with proper training and at least a 3rd Class or BasicMed medical
Carry up to one passenger
Share expenses (fuel, rental, etc.) with your passenger
Operate a broader range of aircraft thanks to MOSAIC updates
Not authorized to fly for compensation or hire
Certain airspace requires endorsements (Class B, C, and D)
Cannot operate above 10,000 feet MSL or 2,000 feet AGL (whichever is higher) without further training
Faster Certification – Minimum 20 hours of flight training (many students take a bit more to reach proficiency)
Lower Costs – Less training time compared to Private Pilot; medical eligibility based on a valid driver’s license
Flexibility – Ideal for those pursuing recreational flying or planning to continue on to Private Pilot
Our structured program prepares you for both the FAA knowledge test and practical exam.
