Already a Flight Instructor (CFI) and looking to expand your qualifications? The CFI-I add-on allows you to teach instrument students, endorse them for knowledge and practical tests, and provide valuable instruction in real-world IFR conditions. Adding the CFI-I rating makes you a more versatile instructor and strengthens your aviation career prospects.
A CFII is authorized to:
Provide instrument flight instruction to students seeking an Instrument Rating.
Conduct instrument proficiency checks and endorsements.
Train students in advanced navigation, IFR procedures, and instrument safety.
Sign off students for their instrument written and practical exams.
With a CFII, you’ll help pilots safely expand their abilities into all-weather flying—a skill highly valued across aviation.
To begin CFII training, you must:
Hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate with an Instrument Rating.
Hold a current Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI).
Possess at least a 3rd Class Medical Certificate or BasicMed.
